Welcome to Caloosa's CERT Program
What is CERT? The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program trains people to be prepared for emergency situations in our community. CERT members give critical support to first responders in emergencies, provide immediate assistance to victims, collect disaster information to support first responder efforts and provide first neighborhood help in the immediate hours following a major emergency. We are families helping ourselves and neighbors helping neighbors to prepare, respond and recover in our own neighborhood.
Why CERT?: Often emergency personnel are overloaded and unable to reach rural areas and are short of personnel to respond, it was due to this need that the CERT program was born. CERT training provides its members with the decision-making and physical skills to offer immediate assistance to family members, neighbors and business associates in an efficient and effective manner without placing themselves in unnecessary danger.
When, how and where is CERT? Caloosa CERT is "now." Our Caloosa CERT team is our neighbors, who, following training, have initiated a neighborhood team, whose actions make a difference as we saw after both Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne. Following a 21hour basic training program and on-going efforts, our team can manage utilities, put out small fires, provide lifesaving interventions, perform basic search and rescue operations, assist in damage assessment, evacuation and rapid sheltering.
Who can join CERT? Caloosa CERT welcomes any of our neighbors to join our meetings and training activities. We meet on the third Tuesday of each month. Please feel free to contact Dick Curtis at 561-379-8579 with any questions or to learn more about Caloosa's CERT program.
